Car-fi system is a proven deterrent to vehicle theft. Independent research shows that one of Britain’s leading insurers has paid out 25% less in claims for vehicles marked and registered with the International Security Register than for vehicles not protected by this system.
Another test carried out by a local authority over a period of a year showed that vehicles marked and registered with the International Security Register are much less likely to be stolen than those unprotected. The test showed that unprotected vehicles had a one in 42 chance of being stolen (the national average at the time of test) while that for protected cars was one in 236.
Today, the Car-fi system is Q listed by Thatcham* and installed as original equipment on more than 27% of all new UK car registrations. Dealers throughout the UK’s after-market also use the system to protect both new and used vehicles against the risk of theft. Consumers typically benefit in the form of reduced insurance premiums. |

Under the Retainagroup system, once a vehicle’s windows have been permanently marked with a unique code and the telephone number of the ISR, all of the other relevant details are entered on the ISR, together with the name and address of the vehicle’s registered owner, driver or keeper.
The high level of security offered by the ISR allows other information, such as ignition keys, radio codes and wheel nut, alarm or immobiliser numbers, to be regularly updated and made available to dealers and owners as part of Retainagroup’s overall security service.
The mileage check also deters people from tampering with a vehicle’s mileometer. By calling the ISR, prospective buyers can be helped to establish the truth of a vehicle’s mileage, before deciding whether or not to buy it.
Experience has demonstrated that, when cars, motorbikes or bicycles protected by Retainagroup have been stolen or illegally shipped abroad, they have been recovered when calls have been made to the International Security Register.
