Case study
The ISR provides customers with a comprehensive, wide-ranging service. From contacting owners to prevent Environmental Health Officers breaking into vehicles to stop alarms causing noise pollution, to discovering and retrieving a high powered sports car that was stolen and shipped to Australia.
The ISR operates 24 hours a day and there is always an operator at the end of the telephone – that can quickly direct services to help or supply urgently needed information.
The Alarming Alfa When an Environmental Health Officer from Walthamstow called the ISR he reported that the alarm of a brand new Alfa Romeo was causing noise pollution. He said that if the owner did not return within 40 minutes he would have to break into the vehicle. The ISR called the registered owner at work, his secretary called him on his mobile and a very nervous owner called the Register to say that he was returning to his car immediately and would the Health Officer not touch it. The ISR passed the message on.
The Malaysian Mazda Greater Manchester Police, Stolen Vehicle Squad telephoned the Register with an etch code found on a vehicle that had been made up of more than one vehicle. They had followed a container from Manchester to Southampton full of what they believed to be stolen vehicles ready for export to Malaysia. On checking the etch code it was confirmed that the etch belonged to a stolen Mazda, it was the only vehicle that they were able to identify immediately.
Stolen Starlet A prospective owner called having been offered a Toyota Starlet for sale. The price was very reasonable but there was no logbook. He said that he was a little wary and wanted to know exactly what the code on the window meant. The system was checked and the original owner informed us that the car had indeed been stolen two months previously.
The Road Hogger A concerned caller thought that a Renault 19 had been abandoned in a private road that was due for resurfacing that day. The ISR contacted the firm who owned the vehicle, who contacted the driver, advising that the car be removed, thus preventing the cost and embarrassment of the car being towed away.
The Surprise Gift Giver A woman woke up one morning to find a brand new Daewoo parked on her drive. There was nothing to say where it had come from and after establishing that it was not a surprise gift from her husband, she called the ISR who discovered that the car had been delivered to the wrong address and should have been a surprise present for the caller's neighbour.
Heathrow Holiday A call was received from Heathrow terminal 4 short-term car park staff. A Saab had been parked there for five months and there was no indication of when it would be leaving, in desperation staff called the number etched into the glass - the ISR established it was a hire car. The Hire Company was contacted but it's possible they wished they hadn't been - the car had accrued £4,500 in fines.
Visiting the in-laws A shop owner in Hebden called regarding a Citroen that had been left with the keys in the ignition. He locked the car, removed the keys and called the ISR who contacted the owner. The shock of visiting relatives had left him totally unaware that he had left his keys behind - he was most appreciative.
